Role Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and flexible individual to join our small new and growing manufacturing team.

This person will be responsible for setting up assembly processes and procedures in a clean slate production site.

They should have experience of working in a production environment with the capability to start from scratch with limited external input. They should be comfortable taking the initiative and finding creative solutions to problems while working within a multiskilled team.

The person must be willing to “roll their sleeves up” and muck in to get a job done on time.

The successful candidate will be required to quickly turn their hand to a wide range of skills from build book creation to fixture design and to pick up new responsibilities as the facility develops.

  • Creating, developing and validating new procedures and processes for machine and enclosure assembly  
  • Specifying, designing and validating assembly fixtures and special tools for product assembly
  • Setting up a clean slate factory as part of a small multifunctional team
  • Witness and collect information from trial builds/tests, translate this information into clear work instructions 
  • Devising and scheduling work instructions for assembly staff  
  • Specifying and populating MRP/ERP system 
  • Certification of production facilities to new standards in order to enter new markets 
  • Identifying areas of concern and risk within production process and solving them quickly and effectively 
  • Ensuring quality of delivered product through process/system control and testing
  • Liaising with multiple teams to ensure efficient running of manufacturing processes  
  • Managing shop floor task times and coordinating with shift leaders to identify potential time/cost savings
  • Creating of acceptance test documents and procedures and troubleshooting issues arising during test
  • Conducting spot checks once processes are established and taking an active role in resolving any issues discovered
  • Initially responsible for health and safety procedures and compliance within the assembly process, then responsible for handover once H&S manager recruited
  • Coordinating machinery repair, calibration and service to minimise downtime.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a dedicated and creative individual with some experience using one or more of these tools:

  • Background in engineering with a relevant engineering degree or apprenticeship preferrable 
  • Knowledge of material science and manufacturing processes of large and small machinery components 
  • Proven track record of successfully adapting to challenges and taking the lead in complex situations 
  • Good knowledge of electrical theory and able to fault find from a wiring diagram in a time conscious fashion 
  • Previous experience of MRP/ERP systems 
  • Knowledge of QA processes and delivering quality within a production environment 
  • Experience of certifying production facilities to regulatory requirements 
  • 3D CAD experience essential for creation of assembly documentation. Exact platform not relevant as training will be provided in the Creo package Knowledge of 6sigma and lean manufacturing 
  • Ability to specify processes from parts arriving on site to finished product leaving the factory 
  • Ability to maintain a clear head and make decisions under pressure 
  • Experience of health and safety in an industrial environment 
  • Able to identify skills shortfalls and request assistance from other teams or additional training requirements to fill in gaps
  • Proficient at producing clear and concise process documents
  • Able to produce a business case for any proposed changes 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and scheduling software.
