The compressor has a particular application in the boosting of traditional engines, and the development programme of the compressor has identified specific benefits. The Blade Supercharger™ is an efficient, variable mass flow, positive displacement supercharger.
The patented design has a novel rotary geometry and has been designed to maintain high efficiency over a wide range of operating conditions. The supercharger has been designed from the outset to have the capability (if required) for high internal compression and large pressure ratios. This allows the supercharger to meet the needs of today's downsized engines, as well as future Miller cycle engines (which require much higher boost pressures).
The design also allows for the real-time variation of mass-flow and internal compression ratio (without changing rotational speed). This is thought to be unique against current technologies, allowing far more control when matching the supercharger to an engine.
Manufacture costs are expected to be equivalent to those of other rotary superchargers when in production.
