Phase 2 of the development programme, undertaken with Mahle Powertrain, was a proof of concept phase for both the engine and the compressor. This phase, which was completed in 2005, demonstrated the feasibility of the design, created new design features and refinements, and modelled performance.

Phase 3 was completed in 2007. This is a programme to build working prototypes of the design as a compressor, both for application as a compressor and supercharger and as an important stage in the development of the engine. Prototypes are undergoing testing.

Phase 4, the development of compressor prototypes for specific applications with industry partners, and the construction of engine prototypes, will follow. This phase will include specific work development work on the Blade Expander™.
